1. Turritopsis dohrnii is an incredible Jellyfish known for its nickname and its specialty, do you know what’s its specialty? Well, aparently this one is immortal and has a nickname of immortal jellyfish. The immortality is not like you hope it would be though. You can try to kill it and it will just die. But in the perfect conditions this jelly fish can live on and on for ever.


  • How does it do it? It can revert itself completely to a sexually immature, colonial stage after having reached sexual maturity as a solitary stage.

2. 95% to 98% of a Jellyfish’s body is water. They don’t have brains, hearts or bones for that matter. If a Jellyfish washes up on the beach, it will evaporate quickly and soon there will be nothing left off. It’s as if it disappears in most cases.

3. Jellyfish use the same organ for both intake and waste expulsion.

4. In Japan, the Jellyfish is a very popular side dish. They dry it and use it salted. I hear it is tasty!

5. Jellyfishes are venomous. Some have enough venom to kill a human.

6. The box jellyfish species known as Malo kingi has one of the world’s most potent venom. The jellyfish is no bigger than your thumbnail though.

7. Even a tentacle separated from a Jellyfish’s body can sting you. So while you’re on beach next time, sure to look out for these tentacles. Anyway if you got stung, don’t wash it with water. Doing so will release more venom into you. Instead first pull out the tentacle completely and then clean it with rubbing alcohol, ammonia, vinegar or urine. Don’t take it lightly, there are a lot of cases of human deaths caused by jellyfish stings.

8. Jellyfishes are not fishes and have been around for over 650 million years. The evolution of fish began only about 530 million years ago.

9. The largest known jellyfish has a body with a diameter of 2.3 m (7 feet 6 inches) and the tentacles reached 36.5 m (120 feet). This jellyfish is from the family of  lion’s mane which is largest known species of jellyfish.
